Return of the Blog

Alright, so with a little inspiration from Monty and McClure, I've decided to give the blogs another try. Here goes:

Thursday 9:30 p.m. - As per my usual routine, I rolled into Victoria the night before our gig and met up with Matt. This usually gives us an excuse to drink some whiskey and devise plans to solve world issues. No major problems solved except sobriety.

Friday 12:00 p.m. - Van Call.

Gig: Back Porch Bar - Port Aransas, TX

This is one of our favorite seasonal venues to play. The staff, tourists and locals are all so laid back and friendly.

Wait for everyone to show up and load up. Been watching the weather all week and it's fluctuated between bring a jacket weather and let's see if you're even going to play weather. Finally start the trek to Port A, when we get the call that our show may get cancelled.

Never retreat, Never surrender we always say. So we make some calls, put in a favor with the man upstairs and confirm a go-ahead with our show.
Much thanks and love to Chris Sayre (Britt Lloyd Band), sound engineer extraordinaire for setting us up with the best sound I think we've ever had there.
8:00 the guys hit the stage and strike the first note to perfect weather and an already rowdy crowd.

Cool Beans.

A few small gusts here and there, but overall the weather held out for the show and the crowd kept building (and drinking). Sell a couple Koozies and cd's and make some new friends along the way. The guys played well and had a blast. David's little neice danced the night away and got some stage time too. She was the hit of the party! Having fun is contagious and between her and my boys they sure did spread the wealth. 2nd set is always interesting at The Back Porch. This trip is no exception.

500 Miles by The Proclaimers. Enough said.

If you don't remember it, look it up.

Like I said...interesting.

Finish up with the ever popular Willie, Waylon and Me intro into Boots. Strike the last note and not a second later the wind came with the fury.

Perfect.

Pretty quick load out... for this bar anyway.
Head to the hotel for the wind down and a few nightcaps.

Texted Gary P. He's playing Euro Disney. I wanted some Mickey Ears.

Sweet dreams of Mescan food awaiting us after checkout.

Saturday 12:00 p.m. - Check Out

Suffocate any chance of a hangover with some Enchiladas and Dr. Pepper.
No hangover, but alot of time to kill before we can load in so we head back to Matt's.

A quick nap and a couple of movies later it's time to head to Moulton.

Gig: Scooter's Bar - Moulton, TX

Ya wanna talk rowdy? This is a good ol honky tonk where if you didn't have fun it's your own damn fault. Jackson Taylor filmed his "Honky Tonk Heroes" video here. If it's Jackson approved, you know its gonna be a party!

Setup and Soundcheck run smooth with the exception of some people from the other side of the bar wanting to do some drunken karaoke.
Don't think so.

Get monitors and front of house set and then we hurry up and wait. Watched a little bit of Pearl Harbor and hung out on the back patio/loading area chatting with the boys. Our good friends Bobby and Tiffany from our old hang out Bubba-Clydes came out and raised some hell! Scooter's is a late crowd but there were some die hards cheering at the front of the stage from the start. Always good to see. By the second set its just about shoulder to shoulder and alot more folks at the front of the stage dancing and singing along. Scooters now has their liquor license so the whiskey and jager were flowing better than a rev. run and snoop dog collaboration.

Fast-ish load out, chat with Bobby and Tiffany and we're on our way.

Sunday comes pretty quick.
